TANZANIA: JKT to train to be champs

After a winning both men’s and women’s titles in the recently concluded National Basketball League, the Tanzania Basketball Federation has urged National Service headquarters teams to train intensively for the senior East, Central and South African championship.
The regional championship will be held from April 17th -24th in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
TBF Secretary General, Lawrence Cheyo said since the regional tournament is competitive; there is a need for local representatives to have started preparations early.
Apart from the local clubs, the regional championship is also expected to feature other teams from various countries as well as hosts Kenya, such as Uganda, Seychelles, Djibouti, Namibia, Sudan, Eritrea and Egypt.
“We want to see our teams excel that’s why we urge them to get prepared for the battle”, said Cheyo.
Apart from securing tickets for the regional event, MMJKT will also take part in the Union League.
Other teams, which starred in the NBL league held in Morogoro are also to secure tickets for the Union league, being Savio, JKT Oljoro, and Pazi.
Meanwhile, Tanzania will field teams in the Under-20 Zone Five tournament, also slated for Nairobi in July.
Cheyo said the federation’s technical and coaches’ commission will prepare the local boys’ and girls’ teams for the event.
