NIGERIA: C/Games - Nigeria draws Australia, New Zealand in

The Nigeria men and women national campaigning in the basketball event of the 18th Commonwealth Games holding in Melbourne, Australia will have their full when the semi-finals starts Tuesday.

The Nigeria women, D'Tigresses will take on host Australia in a repeat of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games Tuesday while New Zealand battle England in the other semi final.

The Scott Nnaji and Adewumi Aderemi coached Nigeria women team placed second behind New Land in Pool-B winning two matches and losing one to New Land Monday 83-53 points with captian of the side Mercy Okorie nutching up 15 points, 4 rebounds and 4 block shots while the duo of Funmilayo Ojelabi and Chioma Udeaja contributed 9 points each.

The Nigeria men team coached by Sani Ahmed and Andrew Isokpehi went down scandalously to Australia Sunday by 103-57 points came back to fight off stife challenges posed by the Scots for a 91-83 points victory which saw both Korea based Gabe Muoneke and home boy Ejike Ugboaja scoring 26 points each with Ugboaja recording a double-double with 15 rebounds while captain of the side Abdulrahman Mohammed added 25 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists.

The team made up largely of home-based players will have its hands full Wednesday when it slug it out against New Zealand in one of the men semi-finals.
