KENYA : Kenya won the 8th Inter-Cities Basketball

Kenya won the 8th Inter-Cities Basketball championships with Nairobi City taking the men and the women titles played at Lugogo indoor stadium in Kampala,Uganda on 21st May 2006.
In the women finals Nairobi City beat Kampala City 62 to 57 leading the first two quaters 20-13 and 23-15 but lost the last two quaters 10-16 and 13-09.Nairobi women who were leading 43-28 at half played badly and Kampala who gave aspirited fight in the second half made the game to look like it could go either way.In the semi-finals Nairobi beat Dar es sallam City(Tanzania) 62-43,while Kampala City beat JinjaCity(Uganda) 58-46.
In the mens encounter Nairobi City men beat Dar es sallam City of Tanzania 68-57.Nairobi won the first three quarters 15-13,27-17 and 21-11 but lost the last quarter 14-16 and were leading 42-30 at half time.It was Peter Kiganya's and Ansset Wafula input with 16points a piece each that gave Nairobi the win.Enroute to the finals Nairobi beat Mwanza 81-42 while Dar es salaam beat Kampala City 65-64 with half a basket win which was very painful to host Kampala city.
The next championships which will be the ninth edition will be held in Nairobi City in Kenya.This year's tournament attracted men's and women's teams from Kenya,Tanzania and host Uganda.Kigali of Rwanda and Bujumbura of Burundi failed to show up for the show as the confirmed earlier that they would participate in the championships.It was a good colourful event with over 9cities of East Africa participatingthat is Mombasa,Kisumu and Nairobi Cities of Kenya,Mwanza and Dar es salaam of Tanzania while Jinja with Kampala(host) cities from Uganda.
The next championship in the region is the Falcons Invitational tournamentin June/July same place in Lugogo indoor stadium Kampala, Uganda.
