NIGERIA: Potters Plan Another Win Over Nets

By Pius Ayinor
Lagos

It may yet turn out another day of victory for Niger Potters as they host Bauchi Nets this afternoon at the Federal Sports hall in Minna, Niger State. The view comes in view of the result of their last match by weekend against Plateau Peaks of Jos.

The Potters pushed down the Peaks with a 93-66 comprehensive beating. The result was by far above different from the previews of basketball experts before the teams stepped out on court. The Peaks were tipped to give the Minna opponents a very tough experience just as the Kano Pillars who lost at that by just one point did.

By the same preview pattern for the game at hand today, the Potters may be in for a swell time. Even though the Nets have heavily fortified their team for this season, experts still believe the Nets would find the Potters quite unbeatable. For the Bauchi team, it is quite a testy one as they are visiting Minna with an impressive unbeaten run. They are getting set for the first stage of the play off but a win for them over Potters this afternoon will come as a huge surprise. But just as Nets seek to qualify while staying unbeaten, their hosts are battling hard to lead the Savannah Conference teams into the play off series.

The playing has quite a lot of momentum. But last weekend the other games followed the form books as Pillars and Yelwa Hawks are almost tying up their tickets to the play offs. In Kano the local derby between the Pillars and AHIP ended in a 20-point win for Pillars with the result at 76-56. The road to the play off event has gone quite murky for AHIP who upset the Pillars in a Vmobile Challenge meet last year in Kaduna.

At the Bauchi gymnasium, Yelwa hawks beat Tapgun Rockets 63-47. Nobody expected the Rockets to win from on set. The water is also very murky for Tapgun Rockets who are yet to make it to the play off stage since the Jos team joined the top league in 1998.
