Coast Youth Club have officially pulled out of this year's Premier League. The second leg matches conclude at Nairobi's Nyayo Stadium on October 7.

While announcing the new development yesterday, Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) fixtures secretary Stephen Nyakina said the Mombasa-based CYC had officially written to state they were unable to honour their remaining second leg fixtures due to lack of sponsorship.Nyakina said the federation had accepted the request from self-supporting teams request to continue with the Premier League in the 2007 season. As a result, KBF will only honour the Coastal team's first leg matches while their return leg fixtures will be treated as cancelled.

"All the teams that had won their second leg matches against CYC will have two points subtracted from the current league standing since the matches are now not valid" said Nyakina.CYC honoured all their first leg matches but started skipping the away return leg fixtures against Kenya Commercial Bank Lions on August 26 and University of Nairobi's Terrorists the following day. The Coastal boys again failed to show up against Co-operative Bank in Nairobi on Sunday. So far they have played 11 matches won three and lost eight.

Four other top clubs, Post Bank, KCB Lions, Sprite Storms and Kenya Railways were forced to withdraw from the 2006 championship due to lack of sponsorship. The men's top league has now been reduced to eight teams from 11 while the women's competition has only seven teams.

Meanwhile Ulinzi Warriors, Kenya Ports Authority and Java Warriors are favoured to clinch first position in the 2006 men's and women's pre-season final standings.
