ANDREW Tendo capped his new role as coach-player of Falcons’ club by guiding them to a record equaling 14th consecutive MTN Basketball league victory on Sunday.

The 96-88 victory against Nkumba Marines put Falcons level with Charging Rhinos, who won 14 straight games on their way to the 1997 championship.
Tendo took over coaching duties from Seychelles-based and former Falcons star Stephen Omony, who left last month.

“I’m glad it’s all working out for the team most especially in this encounter against the champions. The Marines put on a good run in the fourth quarter but I am glad we were able to stay calm and in control of the game,” Tendo said.

Falcons started the game on a high note with good runs from Charles Suubi, Sam Obol, Henry Malinga and Eric Malinga for a 55-43 halftime lead.

Marines, spurred on by the fans, went on the offensive to narrow the gap in the second half but time was not in their favour.

In Saturday’s games, Becky Akullo scored 15 points including two jump shots in the final two minutes as Kampala City Council Leopards claimed a record 15th consecutive victory at YMCA.

Leopards are vying for their first MTN title, and their 45-42 defeat of MAK-Sparks makes them the first team to win 15 successive games in the women’s league.
