UGANDA : Falcons Pip Marines in Controversy Ridden Semis

THE introduction of 3 match officials failed to reduce contentious calls in the MTN Basketball League play-offs game between defending champions Nkumba Marines and Falcons played Monday evening at Wandegeya.

Two officials are normally deployed to handle regular season games. Lead referee Emmanuel Samanya and second umpire Nelson Onyita made controversial calls from kick-off to the end.
With four minutes to the end and scores at 51-48 in favour of Falcons, the game almost aborted following a technical call by first umpire Sam Bahwayo against Marines.
Marines' bench players converged on the court and fans threw objects protesting Bahwayo's decision arguing that he had overruled a foul on their point guard Salim Ali.Then, with 15 seconds left to the final whistle and Falcons leading 60-57 Norman Blick sunk a three-pointer to tie the scores, sending fans into frenzy as they braced for overtime.
However quick in-bounds by Falcons ensured that Tony Oluka and Eric Malinga got to the charity line in the last eight seconds each converting one of the two, to make it 62-60.
Falcons' Eric Malinga scored a game high 21 points while Norman Blick, whose last three-pointer was cancelled for a walk got a team high 18 points.
