Rwanda’s U-20 basketball team thrashed their Ugandan and Ethiopian counterparts to book a semi-final berth in the ongoing Association of National Olympic Committee of Africa (Anoca) Games in Nairobi, Kenya.
The youngsters beat Somalia 72-63 in their opening fixture, before maintaining their fine tune, registering 68-46 and 86-65 victories over Eritrea and Uganda respectively.
The victories ensured that Rwanda topped its group, to move on to the semi-final stage where they would be tested by hosts Kenya today.
Sources from the Rwanda camp in Nairobi indicated yesterday that the team was confident after their group- match superb performance. However, they also reckoned that it was not going to be easy to oust hosts Kenya.
“The Kenyans have a lot of support and one thing for sure is that it’s not going to be easy, but we shall do our best. We registered victories against other countries and we are confident we can do the same against Kenya,” added the source.
Victory over Kenya will automatically count Rwanda into the finals that are slated for later today.
