ZIMBABWE : Harare basketball league call for more tournaments

Harare basketball league which is the dominant force in local basketball has bemoaned the lack of international competitions for the senior teams saying it impacts negatively on the development of the game.

Harare Basketball League administrator Simon Lawson says the basketball union of Zimbabwe needs to organize more tournaments for the seniors if the country is to do well at international competitions.
Lawson said the talent that is being developed at the national youth games and Zone Six youth games is being put to waste as they have no other level where they can compete at international level.

Zimbabwe has functional provincial leagues in only two provinces in Harare and Bulawayo.
Some clubs once formed a national league but were suspended by the national association who were against the idea which has left many teams in provinces without provincial leagues having nowhere to play.
