KENYA : Ladycats Win Pre-Season Title

KCITI Ladycats overcame hosts USIU Flames 33-29 in a tense final that had tied five times. The game had tipped off to a slow start with USIU going up 06-02 after the first quarter. KCITI managed to shrug off the fatigue, bouncing back to go on a 10-04 run in the second quarter to take a 12-10 advantage after the break after good runs from Brenda Angeshi, Doreen Minala, Anastasia Njeri and Jackie Tindi. The third quarter was livelier as both teams traded baskets at both ends, with USIU closing in at 17-18 after an Evelyn Sande 3-pointer. Flames maintained their offensive plays tying the game at 18-18, 20-20 after breaks by Sally Bosire. However, KCITI managed to hang on the lead through Angeshi who put them up 22-21 at the end of the quarter. The final quarter saw both teams come out all fired up, with Quenter Ramogi tying the game for USIU at 27-27 before Brenda Odula put them up 29-27 after a base jumper. Their lead was however short-lived as towering KCITI centre Doreen Minala sunk back-to-back baskets with a minute to go for the win. Njeri shot 9 points and Minala added 6 for Ladycats, as Sande and Odula combined for 11 points for USIU Flames.
