UGANDA : Miracle Event Tips Off Today

THE 2006 basketball season tips off this weekend with the Miracle Invitational Challenger Series at the club's home ground in Rubaga.
The tournament, organised by Miracle Basketball Club, brings together top teams as they prepare for the MTN-FUBA League due in a few weeks' time.
Sadolin Power and KCC Leopards will be out to defend the trophies they won last year after edging Crane High School and Makerere University Sparks.
To spice up the event, dunking and three-point shooting competitions are also on card, with the winners walking away with cash prizes. The best in both competitions takes home Shs25, 000 while the winning team bags Shs0.2m.Apart from cash prizes teams and individual players will be warming up for next weekend's Hoops of Hope Tournament and the Makerere Open, which will act as a curtain raiser for the league.

Meanwhile, according to Fuba President Ambrose Tashobya, Federation of International Basketball Associations (Fiba) has promised to act tough on all clubs that take part in the league without trained coaches.
"We have been informed that for our league to be recognized, every club must have a Fiba trained and certified coach. So I call on all clubs to facilitate their coaches for training as a way of professionalising the league," said Fuba boss Tashobya.
