TANZANIA : Savio again Tanzania Champion

SAVIO retained the Union basketball championship yesterday after defeating JKT 48-41 points in mouthwatering finals held at the National Indoor Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

Savio who are also the National Basketball League Champions were at their best and dominated the proceedings from the word go. They took control of the first quarter of the game of the scoreboard which read 9-8 points.
Despite putting up a hard fight, JKT who are among the best teams in the country, failed to impress, leaving their opponents leading the game, and up to the breather Savio had recorded an impressive 25-19 points.
The electrifying finals saw basketball giants JKT sinking in front of hundreds of fans packed in the Indoor Stadium.
The army men fought hard in the third quarter but still could not match the intensity, and determination displayed by Savio who chalked yet another 32-28 points, before concluding the final quarter with a seven points gap.
Savio slotted their points through Yusuf Abdul who recorded 15 and his teammate Henry Mwinuka who registered 10 points while JKT got their points through Charles Makene and Franklin Simkoko who scored 17 and 9 points, respectively.
In the third position playoff, Tabora’s Bees who last Saturday lost to mighty Savio took the third position after defeating Dar’s Oilers by 63-49 points in a match played at the same venue earlier in the day.

Meanwhile in the Ladies event, JKT Queens consoled their male counterparts, after emerging champions of the Union title in the Ladies discipline beating Jeshi Stars 45-33 points in the finals held at the same venue.
JKT who were behind the opponents at the breather with 12 points against 14 of Jeshi were more rejuvenated in the last two quarters of the game and managed to turn up the tables against their opponents to win at the nail biting final.
Their points came from Dorica Mbunda who slotted home 12 points and her colleague Muhaja Yawawa who had nine points while Jeshi got their points from their towering veteran player Grace Daudi who registered seven points and Nipaeli Kessy who scored five.
