KENYA : Nairobi to Host Provincial Tourney

Four teams will represent Nairobi in this year's inter-provincial basketball championship to be held on Saturday at Hope Centre in Nairobi from 9.30am

According to the Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) vice-chairman Dann 'Owerre, the provincial league champions Posta will lead the pack.

Other teams are: Outsidaz, World Hope and Kenya College of Accountancy. O'werre said the draws and the allocation of the courts will be done at 9am.

The two-day tournament will be used to select two teams to be promoted to the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) organised men's Division One league next year.

Coast province representatives, Kenya Ports Authority won last year's event in Kakamega to earn a ticket to the 2007 Division One league.

The dockmen, have already qualified for the post-season play-offs after having emerged winners in the pre-season with 33 points. They won 15 matches and lost only three.

Other KBF branches expected to sent their teams into Saturday's tournament are: Rift Valley, Eastern, Coast, Central and Western. Nakuru Youth will represent Rift Valley while Central is likely to field Thika Technical.

The two finalists will qualify to take up the two slots in next year's Division One league. Two teams are expected to be dropped from this year's lower competition which attracted 10 clubs.

KPA, Mennonites, Telkom and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology have all qualified in that order for the play-offs to fight for the two positions in the 2008 Premier League. Pirates and Kisumu Lakeside face the relegation axe to the lower competition at the end of the season.
