NIGERIA : 6th Ilupeju Classics: Hoopers, Whales, Academy in winning form

Defending champion of the quarterly Ilupeju Classics, Royal Hoopers basketball club of Port Harcourt, Rivers State got off to a winning ways Tuesday at the opening day of the 6th edition of the Classics put together by Warriors Basketball Academy.

The Port Harcourt based side walloped Flying Horse by 41-12 points to stay top of group-B, host and 5th edition runner-up Warriors Academy also recorded a win in group-A with a narrow 36-33 points victory over Raptors basketball club in a thrilling encounter.

Group-C seeded team, D.D.Magic got a rude shock in the hands of Charles Osho coached Whales with a 45-32 points lose.

Five matches are billed for day-2 of the 5-day classics which is the first championship in Nigeria this year with Sea Rovers battling it out against Whales in group-C, Flying Horse will take on Bayelsa Waves in a group-B duel, Royal Hoopers will ballet University of Lagos in another group-B pairing, Panthers and Raptors will entertain the crowd in a group-A game while Bayelsa Waves and University of Lagos will do battle in another group-B game that promise all the trapping of a top basketball match as both side parade a crop of tested players who can hold their own against any opposition.
