KENYA : Kenya advances to Africa U18 Championship

Kenya advances to Africa U18 Championship for men in Egypt. In the zone 5 qualifiers the team became the best squad to be sent to the championship. Kenya participated with Rwanda, Uganda, Sudan and Burundi to decide the winner. In the decisive game Kenya overcame Rwanda 57:56 to win the qualifier. After the win over Rwanda, Kenya rounded up their unbeaten run with a 58:49 win over Uganda to qualify for the continental showpiece to be staged in Cairo, Egypt from August 16-25, 2008.
The winners took an early lead in the opening quarter and dominated the court. In the second quarter however Ugandans bounced back to a 15:11 margin. It gave the latter 22:20 lead when the teams left the court for the break. Uganda continued to be in front even in the last period and had a 51:42 advantage to the delight of their crowd. Olumasi brought Kenya back at 56:56 and then another points saw them on top of the group. Kenya boys finished their games unbeaten with a resounding 89:55 win over Uganda. Moses Wanjara led the winners with 19 points. Kevin Samora and Anthony Okello netted 14 apiece and Joshua Omondi scored 10. Rwanda finished second with a 58:47 win over Burundi.
