NIGERIA : Clinic Will Boost Youths Talent - Ujiri

It was thrills and frill at the fifth edition of the Nestle Milo/Nike sponsored Camp 50 basketball Clinic which dunked off last Sunday inside the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

The clinic which featured 50 young talented basketball players from the nooks and crannies of the country dunked to an end last Tuesday with the kids and organisers lauding the clinic which brought to the fore future greats in the game.The three day clinic was put together by some Nigerians living in the United States and was co-ordinated by Masai Ujiri, the Assistant General Manager and Player personal of Toronto Raptors in Canada.
The former basketball national team player and brain behind the clinic said the clinic was designed to help create awareness about the game and to teach the youth about how to abstain from sex and stay focussed on the game. He also added that the event features an educational program called Stay- In- School, fight against HIV/ AIDS .
The aims of this clinic he said is to teach them the basics of the game in an educational way. The event brought kids from different parts of the country together and skills were impacted by the coaches. According to him, the plan is to give Nigerian youths their dreams to play. Ujiri who also was discovered from the street, brought along with him five top NBA coaches alongside some Nigerian coaches
Scott Nnaji who worked with him said it was a nice ideal giving the kids opportunities to show their worth. One of the American coaches simply called Godwin said they will keep up with the programme just to encourage them to study hard.
According to him, two years from now, the female version will debut in Nigeria to give both sides equal opportunities.
