RWANDA : Falcons Wary of Ban From International Competitions

by Sande Bashaija

National Basketball League champions Mogas Falcons are worried of a two-year ban that could be imposed on them if they fail to participate in the Africa Zone 5 Club Championships due October 28-November 1 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
By winning last year's local league, Falcons earned the rights to represent Uganda at the zonal championship, but are uncertain of making the trip due to financial hiccups. "It's unfortunate that we might be banned for two years and handed a big fine If we don't participate," Falcons patron John Ssimbwa told Daily Monitor over the weekend.

In order to take a 19-man contingent, Falcons need over Shs51m but have not raised even half the amount. "We have organised a fund raising dinner at Arirang Restaurant on Friday (October 24) and hopefully all sports-loving Ugandans will come on board to support us," Ssimbwa added. Cards for the dinner are up for sale ranging from Shs50,000 to Shs0.5m.
In a desperate move, Ssimbwa has also written to President Museveni seeking his financial assistance. KCC Leopards, A-1 Challenge and Warriors are the other teams expected to represent Uganda.
