SEYCHELLES : Sanken Basketball Cup - Women’s finalists known

PREMIUM COBRAS will end the 2008 season empty handed. On Sunday, at the Palais des Sports, they were bundled out of the men’s Sanken Cup by arch-rivals PLS Hawks.

In the women’s competition, Anse Etoile Stars have progressed to the best-of-three final against HotShots. The two are expected to bring the best out of each other when they lock horns.
After losing their Men’s Division One League title to Baya, PLS Hawks now have as their target defending the cup – now the Sanken Cup – and they collected two wins in as many days.

The defending champions beat Division Two winners Mont Fleuri Dawgz 89-30 last Saturday at Victoria Gymnasium, and the following day they dispatched former league and cup winners Premium Cobras on an 89-78 score to reach the semifinal.
Winners of the curtain-raiser Jhelum Cup at the start of the season, PLS Hawks’ next opponents are lower division outfit Anse Etoile, who walked over two top-flight teams – Cascade Bullets and Razors – during the weekend.

The Hawks will play Anse Etoile tomorrow at 5.15pm at Victoria Gymnasium.
In the bottom half of the men’s draw, first-time men’s Division One league champions Baya, who walked over Juniors last Saturday, dumped Beau Vallon Heat 85-50 on Sunday to seal a place in the semifinals.
They were to know their semifinal opponents last night as MBU Rockers were to play RC Dynamics in the last quarterfinal encounter. The second finalists will be decided on Thursday night.

In the women’s competition, Anse Etoile Stars are hoping for better fortune. After relinquishing the League title to HotShots, the Stars, who won the Jhelum Cup in March, are after the Sanken Cup to save their season.
On Sunday, they defeated Mont Fleuri 74-55 to make the best-of-three final against defending champions HotShots, who will not have to play their second semifinal today as Juniors do not have a complete team.
The first finals have been scheduled for Sunday November 2 and the second ones will be played a week later. If the finalists are then locked on one win each, the third matches will be played on Sunday November 9.
