GHANA : GREATER ACCRA BASKETBALL LEAGUE TO START SOON

Greater Accra Basketball League (GABL) 2009/2010 basketball league season will tip-off on the 17th of April 2009, at the Lebanon House Basketball Court which is amongst one of the venues for the League. The teams who will start off the season are yet to be released publicly. Ongoing now are teams and player registration and also preparation of referees and officials for the league. The registration process is been delayed by late registration of teams for the league. This year's season will surely see the likes of CEPS, CAPE COAST HOOPS, REFORMERS, TEMA YOUTH, PREMIER PANTHERS, WARRIORS, and UTIF. There might also be some new teams who will be playing their first season in the GABL this season. Also going on are clinics and refresher programmes for coaches and referees. In link to the programmes there will be a coaches/referees refresher clinic which will be organized on the 11th of April 2009, at the Labanon House Basketball Court for all coaches and referees of the Greater Accra Basketball League. This is to refresh the knowledge of both coaches and referees of the new changes and amendments in the official rules of the game. The Greater Accra Basketball League is working towards using the three man officiating system this season, which will help improve the standard of officiating at league games, which has been an issue over the past seasons. The Greater Accra Basketball Association will soon be sending on players information to the Ghana Basketball Association for licensing. There will not be any instances of double registration of players who previously could play for more than two teams in during the league season. These has been a major concern for the Ghana Basketball Association and it will be monitoring players together with the Greater Accra Basketball League.
