UGANDA : Eagles face Riders for playoff slot

By Charles Mutebi

MTN-FUBA League
Today at YMCA
Men’s division 1:
Riders v Eagles (8pm)
Men’s division 2:
Veg. v St. Michael (5.30pm)
Women: Bucks v Leopards

THE Miracle Eagles look likely to lose out to KIU Rangers in the race for the last MTN-FUBA league men’s first division playoff ticket but until then they are still in contention and will be expected to take today’s encounter with the Knight Riders seriously.

It is the Eagles penultimate game of the regular season and Bernice Ankunda’s men have to win it to ensure they push KIU to the final round next week. KIU, who played the Ndejje Angels last night, simply have to win their last two games to make the playoffs.

However, if KIU lost to Ndejje or lose their final match against the UCU Canons, then Miracle will take the playoff berth by defeating the Riders and the Nkumba Marines. Those are too many ‘ifs’ but that is what it has come to for Eagles, who began the season with very high hopes.

But if it is any consolation, at least Eagles are assured of league survival, which cannot be said about their opponents for the YMCA contest. The Riders have been relegated from the men’s top-flight for the second consecutive time.
