Share On a Friday night perfectly set up for Flavia Oketcho to return to the MTN-Fuba League after a near 18-month maternity leave, UCU Canons took most of the plaudits instead.

Though looking rusty, Oketcho scored 14 points and four rebounds to lead former women’s champions KCC Leopards to a resounding 76-51 victory over Giant Stormers.

The small crowd was treated to an even better but one-sided feast as UCU Canons looked like a team ready to fight for the postseason with 91-63 rout of an awful Nkumba Marines team.
Even the conspicuous but unexplained absence of Nick Natuhereza from the UCU bench almost went unnoticed. That is how focused they were to clinch the battle of universities.
Sudi Ulanga led all scorers with 31 points and seven assists to improve the Mukono side’s season to 3-3 in the easiest of fashions. “(This is) one of our worst performances in my memory,” Timothy Odeke, who doubles as Nkumba and KCC coach, said.
His assertion represented the picture wholly as Nkumba trailed 10-31, 17-13, 17-26 and 21-19 in the four periods respectively. UCU even had the luxury of resting the starting five for the final half of the ultimate quarter.
Nkumba could hardly recall anything they did right having looked like relegation candidates on the night. Martin Okwako dropped 14 points and picked eight rebounds whereas Sande Okot (15) was not far behind his UCU teammate. Centre Naftary Msogoti also sat out after an impressive 8-5. In the early game, points guard Oketcho enjoyed a good return without necessarily looking dominant.

Today’s game between Miracle Eagles and Ndejje Universities Angels has been postponed to enable the latter attend the burial of a brother to Crispin Biko in Kisumu, Kenya.
