NIGERIA : Olaniyan Tourney Ends In Lagos

The 8th Olaniyan Basketball Championship ended in Lagos at the weekend with University of Lagos International School emerging the winners in the male’s category, while Ajibade Secondary School, Maryland won female’s category.

The championship, which was held at the basketball court of Victory Grammar School, Maryland saw Unilag International School beating Ilupeju Grammar School 36-11 points, while Ajibade Secondary School disgraced Victory Grammar School in a game that ended 11-0 points.
The final ceremony was colourful as students from 16 Schools that took part in the tourney were in attendance to grace the closing ceremony.
Speaking after his team were decorated with gold medals, Chief Coach of the Unilag International School, Oyewole Adebiyi, said the victory was well deserved having lost to their opponents in the last Lagos Milo Secondary Schools. He said his players played to instructions, which earned them the victory
“I am happy that we had a sweet revenge over Ilupeju Grammar School, who defeated us at the last Milo Secondary School. It was a tough match for my team, but I thank God that we overcame our opponents,” he said.
Coach of Ilupeju Grammar School, Adebayo Ademisoye, congratulated their opponents for the victory. He admitted that his team were outplayed, saying that Unilag International School deserved to be crowned as the champions.
Cup donor, Chief Christian Olaniyan, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the schools that took part in the championship. He urged corporate organisations in the country to support school sports.
