No team has been close enough to Warriors during the MTN-Fuba League regular season that UCU Canons know they have a gap to make up when the best-of-five semifinal play-off series start at YMCA court this evening.

The game is a repeat duel from last year which Warriors won 3-2 to progress to the finals and is preceded by a worthy starter involving women’s champions UCU Lady Canons and play-off debutants Magic Stormers.
Nicholas Natuhereza, the UCU coach, thinks a lot has changed despite losing twice to Warriors this season, 76-63 and 87-67.
“We live and learn every day. So hopefully, we have learnt from all that,” Natuhereza said. Those lessons must take into account how to neutralise Ivan Enabu.
Enabu, who left UCU for Warriors in the off-season, has been the difference in both games this year, scoring a combined 43 points.
When they fouled him in the 87-67 victory, the guard nailed 11 of 14 free throws. “Our problem has been a small bench,” Natuhereza added.

UCU had trouble dealing with fouls in the two games against Warriors, which hurt them dearly.
Former Warrior Martin Okwako should be a primary figure in this series. His combination with Desmond Owili and Robert Ogweno should run Warriors close on the inside.
Warriors, last year’s losing finalists, have impressively used their team depth thus far. Eric Malinga and Enabu have dominated the headlines as former MVP Ronnie Kasewu flies quietly under the radar.
Warriors know they start as favourites having finished as top seed in the regular season. Their only loss in the regular season was an upset to lowly Charging Rhino.
“Play-off basketball is different. We need to manage our expectations and execute in defence and offense,” Warriors coach Mandy Juruni said.
In the women’s game, Stormers are in dreamland. Although they lost Anastia Njeri to a scholarship in the US, two-time champions UCU have the necessary experience to take care of business at this level.
