RWANDA : Playoffs get cash boost

THE competitiveness of this year’s basketball playoffs is expected to go a notch higher after a Rwf16m cash boost from Imbuto foundation. The playoffs, which serve as a curtain raiser for the national basketball league, will run from February 10-12.

Reigning league champions Kigali Basketball Club, APR, Espoir and KIE will battle it out in the men’s category while APR and National University of Rwanda (NUR) will contest for the ladies’ crown.
According to Jean Lucien Mugabo, the Secretary General of the basketball federation (Ferwaba), Rwf0.5m is at stake for the winner while the second and third teams will pocket Rwf0.4m and Rwf0.3m respectively.
The federation is also expected to meet next week to elect a new president, vice president and legal Advisor.
