KENYA : Co-Op Crash to UoN 'Terrorists' in Top Ball Tie



NATIONAL champions Co-operative Bank of Kenya crashed to a shock 55-63 loss to University of Nairobi "Terrorists" in a top basketball league tie at Nyayo gymnasium.
The bankers, who have already lost to leaders KCB Lions, Kenya Ports Authority and United States International University (USIU)had a 31-22 lead at the break. But the campus lads changed the tide after intermission to take the maximum points. Billy Oketch was the star of the show as he led the scoring tally with 17 points and Brian Obimbo added 11.
Co-op had 12 each from Titus Musembi and Robert Mugabe. Sprite Storms whipped Mennonites 81-30 behind strong display from Susan Akinyi who collected 18 points and while Sally Bosire hit 12. In Kakamega, Strathmore University teams had a fruitful outing as they nipped home sides in matches played at the Police Canteen. Blades beat Masinde Muliro University of Agriculture and Technology 64-48 behind 17 points from Robert Otieno, the host had 21 from Alex Lugasi.
The ladies tie saw Swords cut Western Delight 51-46 behind 10 points each from Denise Apondi and Joyce Nabwire while Cynthia Irankunda managed 12 for the losers. In the lower division,leaders Kenya College of Accountancy University dimmed KU Pirates debut with a 6-58 win, Africa nazarene University lost 51-77 to Emyba while Umoja beat Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) 53-35.
