KENYA : Kenya Veterans basketball team beats Burundi

The Kenya Veterans team beat their Burundi counterparts 50 -42 in an exciting match that was played at the Nyayo Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Ken Ondiek the Kenyan captain was the top scorer with 13 points while Nairobi Basketball Association League chairman Ronny Owino had 10 points together with Job Munene. Burundi’s Mategeko Nibaratua had 10 points.
The Kenyan team started off strongly in the first quarter and they managed to get 16 points against Burundi’s 8 points. In the second quarter Burundi managed to improve their game in the second quarter but Kenya was still the better side and the quarter ended 15 -10 in favor of the home side to put the total points 31- 18 at half time.

In the third quarter Burundi showed they were in for serious business and they trounced Kenya 12 points to 6 points. The fourth quarter saw a tight showdown between the two teams and the home side managed to take the day when they emerged victorious at 13 -12.

Speaking to michezoafrika.com Ken Ondiek was delighted by the win despite the narrow margin saying this is a great start to a bright future where the region will be united through basketball,
A meeting was scheduled after the game to chart the way forward for the initiative and Ondiek was optimistic that they would managed to spread the initiative to the rest of East Africa, “At the meeting we will discuss how we can involve other countries like Uganda, Tanzania and hopefully transform it to a tournament.”
