A fifth ton in the Airtel National Basketball League enabled Warriors grow their gap atop the men’s division one.
One week after Warriors got stuck on 99 against Vegetarian, they made three figures again in a 101-55 win over Rez Life on Sunday. Centre Sam Gombya top-scored with 22 points and 17 rebounds at YMCA court to lift the losing finalists from the past two years to 12-1. That record is way ahead of the pursuers DMark Power (10-3), Falcons (10-2), KIU Titans (9-4) and UCU Canons (9-4). UCU got their ninth victory on Sunday too, overcoming Nkumba Marines 78-41 courtesy of Sudi Ulanga’s 11 points.
However, UCU coach Nicholas Natuhereza doesn’t have top spot in sight. Five years ago, the university side had the view from the top. It’s now looking like Warriors’ perch for a second successive year even if coach Many Juruni has now missed three straight games.
While he is away in the US learning more, Michael Kariuki and Steven Okias are finding their range following slow starts to the season. Kariuki chipped in with 17 points and 10 rebounds, Cyrus Kiviri scored 17 and Okias had 14.
