UGANDA : Basket Season Opens in Style

Most people wait until Friday to get the party started, but Castle Lite defied the rules, turning last Thursday into the new Friday.
Castle Lite is the title sponsor of the Friday Night Lights (FNL) basketball tournament. The tournament, which kicks off this Friday, is meant to be a curtain-raiser to the annual basketball season. It brings together basketball players and fans to play a fun-filled game. The rules of the game are adjusted a bit, so that everyone can have a good time. Each team is supposed to have a girl who is expected to be on court at all times, and a random fan.
Last year, the tournament was the talk of town, because it brought faces that were not known to grace basketball. From Kampala Central MP, Muhammad Nsereko; Lord Mayor, Elias Lukwago; Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi; first son Muhoozi Kainerugaba; journalist Andrew Mwenda, to socialites Judith Heard, Sue Ochola and Zari Hussein, the tournament for the first time brought a carnival-like atmosphere to YMCA grounds in Wandegeya.
This year, KCCA executive director Jennifer Musisi has already conformed to dress down and come down to Wandegeya not to demolish a building, but to play some basketball. With that much success, Castle Lite has promised to make it bigger and better, and they started by holding a launch party last Thursday at Legends bar and restaurant. I know you might be wondering why a basketball tournament would be having its party at a rugby ground but, the tournament is all about fan and Legends bar is the in thing in town - ever since the place switched hands to new investors.
Castle Lite set up a VIP tent, fully stocked with eats and drinks. Some guests were invited, others had to part with Shs 10,000. To spice the party up as patrons drowned themselves in beer, there was a deejay battle between new comer DJ Carol and veteran DJ Rachel. DJ Carol has some skill, but she still has a long way to go. It was no contest and DJ Rachel won hands down.
The FNL crew also had some freestylers who pulled some and One moves. And to crown it up, Ruyonga and The Mith did their thing. I must say their collabo, Hustle, is off the hook.
