Nigeria: Milo Basketball - St Augustine, St Jude Begin Title Defence July 2

Five thousand seven hundred schools across the country have taken part in this year's Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball champion-ships.
This was disclosed in Lagos yesterday by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Nestle Nigeria Mr Dharnesh Gordhon while addressing the media ahead of the national finals billed for Lagos between 2nd - 6th July 2013 at the indoor sports hall of the national stadium, Surulere Lagos.
St Augustine Seminary Ezzamgbo from Ebonyi State and St Jude Girls Secondary School Amarata of Bayelsa State are the defending champions in the Boys and Girls categories respectively.
Gordhon said that the company was committed to grassroots sports development through the Nestle Milo basketball champion-ships among other sporting events sponsored by the company.
He said, "Nestle focuses on sports to develop the champions spirit in children across the country.
We firmly believe that sports is a wonderful platform for our youths to learn important values such as honesty, teamwork, fair play respect and adherance to rules."
The national finals is a five-day basketball fiesta, with the conference champions displaying high energy, strong competitive spirit and determination to win."
He also disclosed that this year's final will be played on a synthetic basketball floor which is eco-friendly and reputed to have better shock absorption and strong rate of ball deflection.
