Nigeria: 11th Zenith Bank Female Basketball League to Produce National Team

The ongoing 11th Zenith Bank Female basketball league will produce players who will beef up the female national teams, Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) president Tijani Umar has said.
While speaking to Daily Trust at the Abuja National Stadium yesterday, the NBBF President expressed optimism that new stars will be discovered during the competition.
"Women league is now getting to the stage of that of the men. The national team is sure going forward. Talents from this league will continue to be harnessed for the national team.
"Most of the coaches taking charge of these teams are national team coaches so, they have a task not only to coach their team but also to keep an eye on new discoveries, who is going to be in the national team line up," he said.
The standard of play on the opening day of the competition does not suggest any big player emerging from the competition but Umar said the display of players in the Day 1 of the competition cannot be used to judge the standard of play in the competition as the players who just travelled into Abuja for the competition were still trying to settle in.
"Let's wait and see, maybe in the next three days, and we will see clearly who is ready and who is still sleeping," he noted.
Sixteen teams competed for glory in the last edition but 18 are taking part in the ongoing competition.
