Dar es Salaam has once again been picked to host the 17th edition of the East and Central Africa Inter-cities Basketball Games scheduled for May 27 to 31, this year.
The annual tournament will involve both men and women teams from over ten cities in the region. Inter-cities Basketball Committee President, Simon Msofe told journalists in Dar es Salaam on Thursday that Azam Media and Energy Drink have confirmed to be the main sponsors of the tournament for the second time.
He said Azam TV will beam live matches in the five-day competition. Msofe took the opportunity to remind the local cities to prepare effectively and ensure that they keep the trophies for both categories in the country.
He urged the administration of the cities, including Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Mbeya, Mwanza and Tanga to assist in the preparations of their teams by participating directly to encourage other sponsors to come forward to support their teams.
"We have been picked to host this tournament again after successfully staging the 16th edition last year," said Msofe.
Apart from the five cities from Tanzania that will compete in the tournament, Msofe named other cities as Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu from Kenya, while those from Uganda are Kampala, Jinja and Mukono.
Burundi and Rwanda will be represented by Bujumbura and Kigali respectively, Somalia is expected to send teams from Mogadishu, Quardho and Garowe cities, while South Sudan will bring Juba, Citizen and Malakal.
